Wanted to Run
by shimmyt on Dec.19, 2008, under Uncategorized
Well the plan today was to go to training, then go running afterwords. Unfortunately we got hit with about 8 or 9 inches of snow. I was only out there shoveling for maybe 30 min tops and now I feel exausted. I don’t think I’ll be running today. I guess I’ll have to make up for it tomorrow. Maybe I should get up and see if I can find myself this bottle of scotch that my instructor recommended for me: http://www.theglenrothes.com/ looks intriguing.

Well my wonderful wife got me an early non important birthday present. I’ve got myself a nifty iPod Touch 16GB with a Nike+ iPod sensor. Now I can train more with Shaun and he can keep on my ass more. Also signed up on www.mapmyrun.com (shimmyt) and on the nikeplus (ShimmyT23) site.
Happy Thanksgiving
by shimmyt on Nov.27, 2008, under Uncategorized
I am thankful for a lot of things this day and everyday. So for everyone out there happy thanksgiving and hopefully I will see you sometime this weekend.
On to some tech stuff. I guess it’s been a while since I’ve been on my Wii. It’s taing a hell of a long time to update. I’m hoping they have some sort of demo system setup now. Had to even change my wireless security around to get it to connect to the internet. I’m also still playing Gears of War 2. Just downloaded a demo of Fifa 09, and Lego Batman too. Still waiting for my 360 live card to come in the mail as well. I’ve already got challenges from friends for NBA 2k9.
Also I am bringing my moodle cluster plan back from the dead. I’ve got to remove some IP’s so it doesn’t interfere with production but so far so good. This time we will have much better testng in place before we go live. Keeping the fingers crossed for that one.
Good Evening

For all of the crap that’s been going on lately i’m surprisingly not angry or anything. Maybe just a little numb but hey everything can’t go my way all the time now can it.
Some profesionally news, I’m going to VMware training in December! This is really good news for me if anything just to help me out profesionally to get my certification. I’m really getting into VMware Infrastructure now. I’ve even started reading the blogs which is crazy enough in its own right. Also got the whole Altiris project happening right now as well. I will hold off judgement on that one for a little while longer.
Also in case anyone didn’t know I’ll be ordering a Xbox Live subscription. Never had one of these before, so not used to playing online. Will see how that goes. I am more looking forward to the netflix streaming that the new Xbox 360 dashboard provides. Other then that I’m really getting into the new Gears of War and looking to whoop my buddy Germaine’s ass in NBA 2K9. So I guess until next time Holla!
Trying Again

Well tried to put the Linux cluster to production and that failed miserably. After speaking with Red Hat support we’ve discovered that we “over engineered” our solution. So this week will be stupifying our cluster some. Should be a good one! Also I’m signed up for vmware training in December which will be pretty exciting. I’m hoping to get my certification from this too.
Other then that I’ve got some other things in the works thanks to some good friends. So I’m keeping my fingers crossed and mouth shut until I hear more.
New Mouse to go with the EEE
by shimmyt on Sep.12, 2008, under Uncategorized
Picked up a Logitech VX Nano today, then followed this wiki entry: http://wiki.eeeuser.com/configure_logitech_vx_nano?s=nano. It’s a really nice mouse, not too small and fits my overly large hands pretty nice. I also like the tiny usb receiver on it. Normally with the big dongles I’ll forget about it, and then when I throw it in my bag *SNAP*. With 9 buttos theres also plenty of programability in it too. Right now I’m mostly just using the scroll bar and back button. I’m looking forward to getting everythng programmed with it. Well here’s some pics:
BBQ RedHaat and the Asus EEE

It’s been a super busy few weeks. A few major things though. First I now understand why Red Hat is the #1 enterprise linux distribution. Our linux team (Rage and I) was charged with coming up with a cluster solution for our online classes: moodle. After learning a completely new distribution, and extreme googling I’ve been able to cluster 3 linux virtual machines inside of VMware with load balancing. It was really tricky, and I’m in the process of writing up a nice howto for it. There isn’t much of any documentation for it on the intarwebs so hopefully this will be my way of contributing to the community.
Next the EEE has been giving me some issues with the updated 0804 bios update. So I’ve been trying to battle with that. Overall though everything is hunky dory. Anywho this post has taken far too long to write so I am going to wrap it up here.
Photo I Took 7-23-2008

I really like the way this one turned out:
it was a dragon fly sitting on the bushes in my backyard. I used my 300mm Sigma Lens, and my Nikon D200. I think you can get the exif data from it.
Lots of New Gear
by shimmyt on Jul.21, 2008, under Uncategorized
Well everything that I’ve ordered over the last few months is here now. I’ve got a nice big screen Samsung 50″ HLT5076S, Logitech Harmony 880 that I snagged off of eBay for a damn good deal, and a new Popcorn Hour A-100 to play all of the “media” on my server. I now understand what everyone was talking about when they were saying I need to be on HD. This picture is truly amazing. Also the DirecTV folks will be here on Wed to put in the DirecTV HD service. Lots of positive stuff happening. I’ll have pictures and setup information up soon.
Stuff I’m Digging On Right Now
by shimmyt on Jul.16, 2008, under Uncategorized
I’m really digging my old OnStar friends blog 93autumns.com. He has got some really slick shots on there, and I really like his street photography stuff.
Something else pretty cool that I’ve just recently found that I think the entire web knows about is styleforum.net. I never knew there was so much to learn about finer clothing, and shoe brands. I’m personally looking to get in on some of these: Allen Edmonds ‘Belmont’. I think they’d go pretty well with khakis or slacks. Still looking for some really nice dress shoes for dressier events, boots, and casual shoes for my jeans.
